As stated in an earlier post along a similar theme, I am a huge fan of the Internet and all that it has to offer. The likes of Wikipedia, Google, Yahoo, etc provide a wealth of information and services at our fingertips. However, this article in the Independent should sound warning bells on the risks of becoming too reliant and dependent on the technology that is available through the Net.
My concern is, just as having someone go to the gym and exercise for us will not lead to us becoming fitter and healthier, having online services complete our sudoku puzzles and translate conversations from other languages is going to have a negative impact on our cognitive development and mental fitness.
We don't want to become the equivalent of a Cr-48, needing to be hooked up to the Internet to be functional. We want to make the most of the most incredible computer in history; the human brain.
